OpenFOAM Journal policy regarding AI authorship

Today we at the OpenFOAM Journal want to explain our policy regarding AI authorship and the use of Large Language Models like ChatGPT.

We want to be clear that the journal does not exclude papers where LLMs were utilized in the creation process. These models can be useful to enhance human-generated texts for readability and error correction especially for non-native speakers.

However, because LLMs lack accountability, they cannot be considered content creators and do not meet our authorship criteria.
In case you use an LLM, this has to be documented it in the Methods section of your submitted manuscript. The most important rule is that final text versions must have human accountability and approval from the human authors and this has to be clearly stated.

Regarding generative AI images, we generally cannot permit them for publication due to possible copyright and research integrity concerns, except under very specific, verified conditions.
