Romain Poletti, Emanuele Bombardi, Lilla Koloszar, Miguel Alfonso Mendez, and Joris Degroote, "Characterisation and Extension of a Rigid Body Dynamics Solver Coupled with OpenFOAM® for Flight Performance Analysis of Flapping-wing Drones"
The authors present an extension of the articulated-body algorithm in OpenFOAM to support active joints with prescribed kinematics. This allows the body dynamics and the imposed motions to be solved simultaneously, which is necessary to replicate the flight of hummingbirds and insects. They implemented this in a new imposedMotion library that directly prescribes joint positions, velocities, and accelerations.
If you work with multibody dynamics and unsteady flows, this might be for you. As always, the source code and case files are provided so you can use this framework for your own setups.
